        Background

The beautiful Tenuta Collazzi belongs to the Marchi family since 1933. Over the last decade the state has been given new impetus through a restructuring of the vineyards and the winery, with the desire to produce wines of excellence. Collazzi’s microclimate is on average warmer and drier than the surrounding area, and part of the property lies in a natural amphitheatre with an optimal south-west exposure. The strong insolation and high daytime temperatures, allow for a complete maturation of the agricultural productions, kept constant throughout the years. Of the estate’s 400 hectares, over 25 hectares are planted with vineyards, and 140 with olive trees, trained in specialised cultivation for the production of a precious extra virgin olive oil. In addition, Collazzi is also dedicated to the breeding of bees, from which it obtains a small production of organic honey.

        Tasting notes

Intense and rich ruby red colour, with soft garnet highlights. Small red berries and spice aromas blend with the notes of black cherry compote. On the palate it's complex with an attractive tannin structure and a long finish.

        Winemaking

The 7 hectare vineyard, with a south-southwest exposure, is located in the prestigious denomination of Chianti Classico, in the municipality of San Casciano Val di Pesa. Clayey-calcareous, rich in skeleton and well drained. 25 year old vines. Alcoholic Fermentation Malolactic fermentation Refinement and ageing duration Manual harvest and immediate transfer to the cellar with manual sorting of the grapes. Alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature of about 25°. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation in steel vats. 15 months maturation in barrels and barriques, and 3 months in bottle before release.

A great match for a wide selection of red meat dishes, including steak and venison.
